My Psychiatrist Just Tweaked My Anti-Anxiety/Depresson Meds

So my doc just called me back. Only a few hours after I’d left a message saying that I was not feeling so great. (See the last post Advocating-for-your-anxious-self-with-your-doctor.) He agreed that it is a good idea to make some small changes today and then discuss the results when I see him next week for my regular visit. He said to increase the Neurontin from 2100 mg to 2400 mg, and the Celexa from 80 mg to 100 mg. Wish me luck!!!!!!!!

I’m glad I found your blog. I suffer from frequent anxiety. Have had lots of health issues lately including heart trouble. I have woken up exausted several times lately. I hardly have the energy to do anything. It has been a long time since I have felt really well and happy, or at least it seems that way right now. I feel like my doctor doesn’t realize that these symptoms bother me so much. He seems to want to keep me with what I have been taking for about 3 years which is 225mg Effexor for depression, 100 mg Trazodone for insomnia and have been given 25 mg Hydroxyzine for the anxiety attacks I have had since I was diagnosed with heart problems. Also going through some transitional life things now like retirement of hubby within the next year and moving (which I look forward to). Sometimes, I feel like my nerves inside me are about to explode to the outside.

Jane,
I totally understand the feeling about your nerves exploding. If your doctor doesnt “get” you then you need a new doctor. Although it is possible to have more anxiety than medication can control, as in the case of my daughter who finally felt good after adding Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to her regimen of medication, you need to have a doctor who doesn’t make light of your situation. I hope you won’t give up on trying until you feel better!
